Interesting wildlife seen around Leigh - birds & glow worms
Ian Neill of the Glebe in Leigh reports:
"I spend rather a lot of time walking around our local fields, it is
a great joy to see how in the past year the wild life seems to have
prospered from the edges of the fields being left to nature.
This year I have not only seen Blackcaps, Yellowhammer, Swifts, Kestrel, and
Grey Wagtail down by the river, but I wonder how many people realise we
have also got two breeding pairs of Buzzards over near Mynthurst. There
is also a Kestrel family around the Glebe area of Leigh, coming home one
night I saw a Kestrel with its wings spread over some prey and saw that
it had pounced on a Collard Dove this was on the green opposite the
Plough in broad daylight with a lot of people around. Also in the early
morning if you go out before too many people are around, you may be lucky
to see a green Wood pecker looking for his breakfast on the green."
Another parishioner recorded four glow worms on the lawn at night
on 4 August.
