How you can help the village and yourself

Please help Leigh by joining the Leigh Residents' Association.  By doing so you will be helping the village in a number of ways.  the Association can rapidly react to local problems, especially when it is inappropriate for the Parish Council to do so.  The Association has provided grants in support of the fight to keep Strood Green Post Office open, the fight against the nearby Capel incinerator site, and, of course, to help the Leigh Village Fireworks, as well as the last Village Day.

The Association now meets in the Cricket Pavilion at least four times a year and has speakers of substance to come and explain issues and talk on topics of interest concerning the village.  Recent and future subjects include:

  • The falling water table north of Leigh: Our local MP was a speaker
  • The siting of a major incinerator by Surrey CC at Capel, and the effect on Leigh
  • The new policy on Surrey Highways and its effect on Leigh - 10 October 2007
  • A history of Leigh (a future date)
  • Gatwick Airport – development and noise!  (a future date)

Furthermore, the discussions enable every member to keep abreast with useful gossip and news of Leigh and the surrounding area, as well as to meet other villagers.

So, with the very modest subscription of £6 p.a. for a household you would be playing an active and generous role in local affairs, a kind of insurance, as well as keeping up with matters of consequence in and around the village, and, above all, helping the village.
