Personalities of Leigh
In 2004 the late Gavin Pearce sent the Web Master a list of some of the personalities
who have lived in Leigh in recent years.  Additions have been made by other parishioners.



Sedoni Goosens
, a famous harpist from a musical family, lived beyond the age of 100 in Gadbrook Road.  Her husband, Mr Miller, was Sir Thomas Beecham's business manager.

Andre Previn and Mia Farrow lived opposite the Stars for a number of years in the 1970s.

Donald Campbell lived on Tapners Road, and Bluebird was built (or stored)  there.

The Who pop group lived opposite the Seven Stars for a number of years in the 1970s.

Mr Hammond, who added a Sussex barn to the Priest House, went on to be Mayor of London.

Freddy Jones, the actor, lived opposite the church for many years.

Lord & Lady Baden-Powell. From the Autobiography of Lady Baden Powell as told to Mary Drewery, they took a lease on Little Mynthurst for a year: "a dear quaint fifteenth-century place, though a trifle awkward with lots of low beams and communicating rooms."

Sir James William Freshfield.  He built the mansion at Mynthurst in the 1850s.  His name is that of the famous City legal firm.  For further details click here.
